The countdown is over! Baldur's Gate News is ...

Wait! What!? :)

This webpage is not available

Google Chrome could not load the webpage because www.baldursgate.com took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Reload this webpage later.
  • Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
  • Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
  • If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the wrench menu >Options > Under the Hood > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.
The good news is, I am sure the site will be up soon and we will hear all about this big news for our favourite old time RPG ever!
Beamdog lead, Trent Oster has hit Twitter with the following:
Server has buckled. .com is not a happy camper.

Trent seems to confirm the contents of the picture with the following Tweet:

We're happy to announce the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. Our servers are much less happy.

Baldur's Gate Update - March 15-2012

There is an update to the www.baldursgate.com website today.

As of the time of writing this, the "countdown timer" says 4:25:05

That's right, in 4 hours and 25 minutes, there will be something happening.  I hope, for the sake of the people running this little promotion, that there is something bigger than an iPad port in the works.  A new Baldur's Gate 3 product would be my first choice!

The source code has changed as well. Rather than a cryptic quote from a prior Baldur's Gate title, the source code comment simply reads ""

Baldur's Gate - Something Exciting

Yesterday, Feb 29, news broke and a new website showed up.

www.baldursgate.com

It seems that some former Bioware folks, who now run their own independent company, have somehow acquired the rights to, at minimum, use the URL with the namesake of the game that started graphical, story based, computer RPG's for many of us!  The Company (http://www.beamdog.com/) run by Trent Oster (@TrentOster)(formerly of Bioware) has been fairly quiet about what this actually means.  Lots of rumours seem to be spreading, from a new Baldur's Gate III game, to an HD remake of the old, and many things in between.  I, for one, can't wait to see what it means. I still crack open the original every once in a while, so this is especially exciting for me!

Being that one can view the source code of web pages, someone stumbled upon some nice little "quotes" buried as comments through the HTML code that creates the one page website.

As of this morning, March 1, 2012, here are the "quotes" found inside the HTML.
  • Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine
  • Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, the only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm!
plus, at the very end
  • I can teach you how to use your wrath.
As of yesterday, February 29, 2012, the following quotes were found in the source:
  • Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine
  • For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.
  • And then... it returned. Better than it was before.
and, at the end
  • Love is a lie. Only hate endures.
which seems to have changed from
  • As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.
It seems that not only are they leaving quotes in the HTML, they are also changing them over some period of time. So we'll need to keep an eye on them over time! If anyone else has found any different tidbits inside the HTML, please send them here via comment and I will add them.
